mike helgren eyewitness news. for more information including the complete station from st. joseph, log on to wjz.com. a lawsuit against terrell suggs was thrown out today. the mother of his two children candyce williams filed the suit accusing suggs of beating her several times. the couple is trying to reconcile. no criminal charges were ever filed and suggs had previously agreed to pay williams $3,500 a month in child support. two miracles today in haiti. ten days after the earthquake hit, two people were pulled from the rubble alive. but the harsh reality is setting in and crews are shifting their focus on keeping the survivors alive and moving forward. wjz is live in southeast baltimore, new at 11:00, weijia jiang finds a baltimore company

is helping pave the city. >> reporter: ten days after an earthquake shattered much of the haitian capital, focus is shifting away from search and rescue but not before two miracles. a 22-year-old man and an 84- year-old woman are both pulled from the rubble friday. other survivors are leaving port-au-prince. the government is trying to set up tent cities away from the destruction. the building process is just beginning. >> the whole back of the truck folds up hydrolically. first came days of preparing, idolia is staying in haiti for two years. a nonprofit group he founded in 2007 to offer aid to disaster

victims. this is idolia's biggest effort yet. >> so that we can open schools, hospitals and orphanages and bebegin the process toward recovery. >> reporter: the truck will also hauling this excavator behind it. to help rebuild and dig graves. >> we will help families recover the bodies of their loved ones and give them a proper burial. >> reporter: it's hard to believe one truck can help so many. though it is happening, idolia says not without struggle. >> i don't think you can prepare for death and destruction. we see it a lot in this country, what we're about to see in haiti is beyond what words can prepare us for.

go to wjz.com. britain raised the terror alert. cbs news is reporting that the reason behind the upgrade is new information obtained from al-qaida officials recently arrested in africa. where those planes would head is not known. u.s. homeland security is taking this information very seriously and are meeting tonight to determine how to face the situation. flames as you see pouring from the windows of the house. but when firefighters finally got it out of control, they discovered all of the people who lived there were accounted for and there were no injuries. that was not the case in east baltimore wednesday night when two women and two children died in a house fire.

down, the that is -- the nasdaq slid 60 points. wjz is live downtown, new at 11:00, kelly mcpherson explains it's not the unemployed but also the under employed. >> reporter: maryland has been doing pretty well during this recession when it comes to unemployment. but this latest upset is throwing people into an increasingly competitive job market. president obama agreed to weary workers who's ohio plant has already laid off half of its workers. >> we're going to lose our job, it hurts because we have families to feed, kids to take care of. >> reporter: the unemployment rate is 10% nationally. maryland saw an increase in december when the rate rose to 7.5%, compare that to one year earlier when the rate was 5.4%. maryland is better off than 37 other states, what's not been counted here is the under employed. those are people who are not

taking unemployment benefits but still are not making enough money. >> it's a lot of individuals that used to have well paying jobs and have had to settle for a lower paying job to get back into the labor market. >> reporter: is >> reporter: is that something you guys track? >> if they're unemployed we track them, if they're under employed we do track them, but it's not as easy because they are not receiving unemployment benefits. >> reporter: government education jobs are the best place to find jobs in maryland. >> we've had a defense agency that's moving here from virginia. we had a couple of recruitment events with them. they hired 50 people on the spot. the labor department says it expected this up tick in

hillside. polanski was arrested under a u.s. warrant. he is currently under house arrest and fighting extradition. the wife of senator mccain appears on an ad endorsing same- sex marriage. the add shows cindy mccain and no h8 on her cheek. the group's website said cindy mccain contacted them and offered to participate in the ad. mccain says he respects his family's point of view, but he is still opposed to same-sex marriage. what happened as a routine tip turned into a federal case.

the story begins in the central district, especially here on mccullough. there's people inside a car with people believed to be selling drugs. they go to stop the car, the people inside see the police coming so they take off. >> reporter: police follow and put out a description of the car. police follow that car for 17 blocks, those inside they bail out. but they follow them in foot to that house right here. >> they bailed out of the car, they went into a house. once they went into the house, police secured the dwelling and saw drugs in open view. >> reporter: reinforcements are called and those inside are detained. >> went in the door, we found about seven zip lock bags of heroin, half ounce of raw heroin and $17,000 in cash. 15,000 of that was counter fit

been. once this system moving inland, looks like we have a couple of several dry days. but this system is going to start loading up with moisture from the gulf of mexico. when that happens, it's going to move across the country, it's going to get a lot of rain particularly around the valley. it's going to bring warmer air up the east coast and into new england. it could be in the 40s for those folks on sunday, maybe even 50 as far north as southern new england on monday. we'll be in the low to mid-50s on monday. looking for quite a bit of rain developing, but it's going to be on the mild side. we could see an inch of more or rain maybe an inch and a half. out to the west. there's still snow on the ground with mild temps and all that rain there could be some flooding, perhaps in those area, sunday night and monday. we'll be checking that for you. depends how quickly that system can move through. behind it is air of pacific origins, east winds starting
